Marriage, Taxes, and a Dose of Rebellion
In 1766, Bostonians were overjoyed to learn about the repeal of the Stamp Act. Join us for an evening of spirited musical and theatrical entertainment on the 250th anniversary of Bostonians' celebration of the repeal! Featured performers will include local author Martha Lufkin presenting her original comedy, "Marriage is Taxing," based on a documented rush to marry in the weeks before the Stamp Act took effect, to avoid the impending tax on marriage certificates.
